'KINETICUT'
Master's Final Collection (2024)
'Kineticut' aims to create a new interpretation of tailoring based on unconventional techniques that can provide a wider range of movement. Movement is the primary outcome alongside the depiction of male muscularity, considering these elements as the defining incarnations of masculinity.
The garments are created through the combination of traditional sartorial canons (e.g. constructions and design features) and structures created by overlaying different panels, which are then interlinked. The implemented methodology allows the production of garments that preserve the identity of menswear while applying innovative techniques that increase the functionality and practicality of the original constructions. Metallic fabrics and foils are used to reiterate and emphasise the apparent solidity of the suits.
The final outcomes represent a visual oxymoron: the stativity and apparent solidity of a sculptural sartorial outcome. This portrays the male anatomical figure and works as a façade for hidden kinetic features across a wide range of movement.
